Another important objective of this study is to determine the effect of moderating factors such as the culture of the organization, the business strategy and the use of BI tools in the deployment of BI and the sustainability of the competitive advantage of the company.
Business Intelligence Consulting Services in South Africa research uses a combination of resource-based theory and innovation dissemination theory (DOI) to examine the success of BI and its relationship to the sustainability of the company. The research adopts the positivist paradigm and uses a sequential two-stage mixed method consisting of qualitative and quantitative approaches. First, an interim research model based on an extensive literature review is developed. The chapter presents a qualitative field study to adjust the initial research model. The qualitative method findings are also used to develop measures and instruments for the next phase of the quantitative method. The study includes a survey study with a sample of business analysts and decision makers in telecommunications companies and is analyzed by means of a model of partial structural equation by least squares.
The findings reveal that some internal resources of organizations, such as BI governance and perceptions of BI characteristics, influence the successful deployment of BI. Organizations that practice good BI governance with strong moral and financial support from top management have the opportunity to realize the dream of having successful BI initiatives in place. The scope of BI governance includes providing sufficient support and commitment in the financing and implementation of BI, establishing the appropriate BI infrastructure and personnel, and establishing a corporate policy and procedures with respect to Business Intelligence Consulting Services in South Africa.
